Intellectual Property Counseling and Litigation
Tom has over six years of experience in intellectual property counseling and litigation for artists, publishers, inventors, and businesses of all sizes. He can assist with trademark and copyright registration and management, rights licensing, trade secrets protection, and anti-piracy and Digital Millennium Copyright Act compliance. Tom knows copyright infringement litigation, having worked on cases involving both Spawn and The Walking Dead comic books. From a small business perspective, Tom has experience developing comprehensive trade secrets protection policies and day-to-day management of IP issues.
Tom has deep knowledge of patent litigation, from helping small companies protect manufacturing investments to defending Fortune 500 companies. He has litigated patent cases involving healthcare software, email distribution and ERP systems, utility boxes, and bottle labelers, and has written two successful petitions for post-grant patent review.
Tom handles civil and business litigation cases for the firm, having worked on cases involving disputes between LLC members, trade secrets theft, cybersquatting, and government contracts. Tom has also managed internal investigations of businesses under civil and criminal investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission and Department of Justice.
Criminal Prosecution and Appeals
Tom handled over 50 criminal appeals as an Assistant Attorney General. He appeared in court for more than 20 felony preliminary hearings as a clerk with the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office.
